UFC 141: UFC Champ Junior dos Santos "surprised" by Brock Lesnar's performance, excited for striker battle with Alistair Overeem

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

DosSantosJunior_180_2.jpg
Prior to UFC 141, UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos believed Brock Lesnar would be able to use his wrestling game to wear out Alistair Overeem, so Lesnar's performance on Friday night was as baffling to dos Santos as it was to many others.

"Brock seemed a little bit anxious to throw punches and kicks," Dos Santos said in an interview with USA Today. "That surprised me, because I thought he should have taken Alistair down and kept the fight on the ground."

Lesnar is facing the same type of criticism dos Santos' last opponent, Cain Velasquez, received in November when he failed to take dos Santos down before getting knocked out. Still, dos Santos doesn't have any disappointment in the resulting outcome, as he's still got a very exciting matchup with Overeem ahead of him in 2012.

"It's going to be really, really good for the fans," Dos Santos said. "Because he's a striker (and) I'm a striker, it's going to be a stand-up battle."

"He's pretty good at using his kicks, his knees, his punches. But I believe so much in my boxing."

As soon as dos Santos is ready to return, he and Overeem will square off in what should be a massive Heavyweight Championship fight.

Penick's Analysis: Instead of improvement, Lesnar seemed to have regressed a bit in the 14 months since his fight with Velasquez, and it caught a lot of people off guard. Dos Santos now will not get the high profile fight with Lesnar that he was due in June, but he has to hope that some of Lesnar's star will rub off on Overeem for their matchup to make it another massive event. He's a fantastic Champion, and the fight with Overeem is an excellent and dangerous test for his first title defense next year. With the performances both fighters had here to close out 2011, they'll come into their bout in 2012 with a lot of momentum.

Golden Glory legal team wins judgement to garnish Overeem's UFC 141 wages

In the latest legal salvo between Alistair Overeem and his former managers at Golden Glory, a lawyer for the MMA team today obtained a pre-judgement from a judge to garnish the fighter's wages for his bout tonight against Brock Lesnar.

The order requires the NSAC to withhold a $241,285.49 check Overeem is slated to receive for the fight.

The bout headlines UFC 141 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Villain or no villain? Greg Jackson says Jon Jones has little control of what the fans think

Villain or no villain? Greg Jackson says Jon Jones has little control of what the fans thinkGreg Jackson tried to teach Jon Jones a lesson at UFC 140 following his win over Lyoto Machida. He told Jones to tend to the fallen Machida and "go get some fans." Clearly, Jackson misspoke and the intended lesson was lost on most.

"You get to this post adrenaline dump after the fight. Jon did that too," Jackson said of Jones' decision to stoically walk away from the sleeping Machida. "As a coach, I wanted to bring him out of that and make sure that he followed ring decorum. I think it's really important to be a role model for the fans."

Jones' ultimate image is still unknown. A very good guy away from the cage, Jones heard more than a few boos in Toronto. Jackson told ESPN1100/98.9 FM that he doesn't know why Jones was getting it from the boo birds.

"It's for the fans' entertainment. If they want to boo him ... it's like WWE. Then they're going to love him again ... then they're going to hate him again. As long as everybody's having a good time. It is what it is," said Jackson. "For me, I just want him to stay positive, make sure that he can the best role model he can be and then the fans will decide what they want to decide."

Here's the rest of the Jackson conversation. The MMA trainer also spoke about his role in shaping the movie "Warrior." Cagewriter is currently running a "Warrior" DVD giveaway on its Facebook page. The contest ends tomorrow.

UFC 142 look ahead: Anthony Johnson wants to play ?TUF Brazil? spoiler

UFC 142 look ahead: Anthony Johnson wants to play ?TUF Brazil? spoilerVitor Belfort's in an interesting spot come late January.

The Brazilian has a tough fight against Anthony Johnson, but also has a fight likely booked for the summer against Wanderlei Silva. He and Silva are the coaches on "The Ultimate Fighter Brazil." It seems like a possible look ahead spot for Belfort.

Johnson isn't bothered by the double booking.

"That's fine. I'm gonna spoil it. I'm gonna spoil it for them. I'm glad they put that [together], the coaches together for a show," Johnson told Sirius Fight Club on Sirius 94/XM 208. "It's two legends in Brazil. That's great for the Brazilian fighters and the overall MMA community, and for the world to see. Because both of those guys have a ton of knowledge," Johnson said. "Hell, I might just take his job after the fight!"

Johnson, a good prefight trash talker, sounded like he's going to dial it down a bit around the sometimes over-the-top Brazilian fans.

"Only thing I'm worried about is if I can make it out of Brazil or not," joked Johnson. He's noticed Chael Sonnen really stirring the pot around a possible Anderson Silva fight. "[Now] Sonnen needs to worry. I'm not on his level in talking as much as he talks. What he's saying is good for promotion, but it's also bad. There's some things you say and some things you don't say."

Johnson said he's not worried about trying to verbally intimidate Belfort. He's more interested in making sure he's on point on fight night.

"Of course his hands are fast, but I have to stick my gameplan and what I know and what I do best. Once I start worrying about what he can do. Then that's when you stop thinking about what you can do," said Johnson.

The matchup makes for an intriguing fight. It's strength against strength.

The 6-foot-2 Johnson has spent his entire career fighting down at 170. How will he react to a smaller weight cut? Johnson said he'll still be cutting from around 210 pounds. Will his power translate to the 185-pound division? Maybe he does catch Belfort looking ahead. He's certainly got nothing to lose. We'll find out if Belfort, who's biggest weakness is his mental game from fight-to-fight, is rock solid in Rio.

UFC 141 weigh-in: Diaz weight only minor issue, Overeem absolutely massive at 263

UFC 141 weigh-in: Diaz weight only minor issue, Overeem absolutely massive at 263There was no hat tossing, no pushing or shoving, in fact Donald Cerrone tried to give a gift of sorts to Nate Diaz.

Diaz missed the lightweight limit at 155 pounds and then cut to within one-quarter pound of the allowable 156-pound limit.

Listen here for Kevin Iole's breakdown of the Diaz situation (0:35 mark).

Instead of taking 20 percent of Diaz's purse, as is normally mandated by state commissions, Cerrone agreed to re-work the contract. He also said Diaz didn't have to cut anymore weight.

That's when Cerrone's camp told its fighter to pipe down and asked Diaz to go lose the weight. Diaz did so without any resistance and the most heated fight at UFC 141 is a go.

Many people were in attendance to see massive heavyweights Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem weigh in. Overeem came in at a career-high 263 pounds. Lesnar, who lost a significant amount of weight during his bouts with diverticulitis, came in at 266. The big man is back.

There were some prefight rumors that the UFC wouldn't have Cerrone and Diaz square off today.

Yesterday's staredown at the final press conference resulted in a near brawl when Diaz flipped Cerrone's cowboy hat from his head. The staredown happened today, but it was brief and UFC president Dana White was between the fighters, who were at a distance.

Video immaturity: Nate Diaz not a fan of cowboy hats or Donald Cerrone

Aside from watching 500-plus pounds of muscle hit the stage at the UFC 141 weigh-in today, the staredown between Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone should be epic, if not a bit violent.

Yesterday's staredown at the final press conference resulted in Donald Cerrone's cowboy hat flying 10 feet in the air. Check out the video (NSFW) to see the aftermath with 20-somethings, Nate and his brother Nick, talk about who's really the puss in this case.

For Cerrone, he loves being the bully and thinks he's in Diaz's head.

"He is the guy that punks everybody else and gets in everyone else's head, so now what happened? The tables turned, and now I'm in your head, you little (expletive)," Cerrone told Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "It feels good to turn the tables, to think that he came out hard and wanted to be a bully and now I'm bullying him."

Cerrone wasn't totally calm about Thursday's minor fracas. That was $1,000 cowboy hat that Diaz was messing with.

This is shaping up as a very solid card with the Cerrone-Diaz beef leading into a good main event between behemoths Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem.

UFC 141: Jimy Hettes Dominates Nam Phan

Filed under:

Jimy Hettes beats Nam Phan at UFC 141.It's a perfect ten for Jimy Hettes: The young up-and-comer is now 10-0 in his MMA career after a dominant decision victory over Nam Phan at UFC 141.

How dominant was Hettes? The scorecards were 30-25, 30-25 and 30-26 in favor of Hettes. This fight wasn't even close, and Hettes demonstrated that he's one of the most promising featherweights in the sport.

In the first round Hettes absolutely obliterated Phan: He took him down, mounted him and battered him with ground and pound, and when Phan escaped briefly to his feet, Hettes used a perfect judo throw to get Phan back on the ground and get right back on top of him. Hettes wasn't able to finish the fight despite getting into position for an arm bar, but Hettes clearly deserved to win the first round 10-8, or maybe even 10-7. It was that dominant.

The second round wasn't quite as dominant, but another round that clearly went to Hettes. He took Phan down and controlled him on the ground, and easily defended himself for the brief moment that Phan was in the dominant position. It was a solid 10-9 round for Hettes.

In the third round Hettes began to tire out, suggesting that his cardio could use improving, but he still dominated the final five minutes and cruised to an easy decision victory.

The loss drops Phan to 17-10 in his career. He has a place in the featherweight division, but that place is not near the top. Hettes, however, is for real: He's a future title contender.

UFC 141 Results: Alexander Gustafsson Knocks Out Vladimir Matyushenko

Filed under:

Alexander Gustafsson Knocks Out Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC 141.Alexander Gustafsson showed why so many people consider him one of the best young light heavyweights in the world on Friday night, knocking out Vladimir Matyushenko in the first round of their UFC 141 fight.

As Matyushenko was charging in, Gustafsson landed a perfect left jab that leveled Matyushenko, then pounced on him and landed several more punches on the ground before referee Yves Lavigne stepped in to stop the fight.

The fight lasted just 2 minutes, 13 seconds.

"He's a good fighter, I look up to him, but I got the knockout," Gustafsson said afterward. "It was a good punch. It was my day to day. It was my dream to fight in Las Vegas and it was the biggest win of my life."

The 24-year-old Gustafsson is now 13-1 in his MMA career, and he has a good chance of becoming a title contender in the light heavyweight division. Gustafsson has room to get bigger, stronger and better, but he's already plenty good. Matyushenko found that out the hard way.

Long national nightmare is over: Lesnar vs. Overeem on for UFC 141

Any worries about the main event for UFC 141 were quelled by a tweet from UFC president Dana White.

Long national nightmare is over: Lesnar vs. Overeem on for UFC 141

Alistair Overeem was granted a conditional license for his bout with Brock Lesnar in Las Vegas after the Nevada Athletic Commission was unhappy with Overeem not taking pre-fight drug tests to their satisfaction. He had to take another test, but now that he has passed it, next week's fight is on.

Overeem started his training for Lesnar in Las Vegas, but moved back to his native Holland when his mother's cancer became a concern. He said during Monday's press call that there have been distractions, but he knows how to deal with them.

"It was a distraction but, I've been through a lot in my career. I have like 65, 70 fights," Overeem said. "So you learn how to deal with distractions, setbacks. I mean I'm a three-time champion and I've been through a lot, so it's all about adaptation. I'm pretty good at that I think."

Chael Sonnen unimaginatively takes shot at Chicago Cubs

When touting UFC on Fox 2, Chael Sonnen took a shot at the Chicago Cubs, a team who plays 5.5 miles away from the United Center, where Sonnen will fight Mark Munoz. (He takes the shot at the very beginning of the video.)

What disappoints me about that is it's lack of imagination. Using the Cubs as a punching bag is for amateurs, and Sonnen is a highly regarded professional in the world of trash talk. Dana White called him the Muhammad Ali of MMA for his ability to sell a fight. Ali would never go for such an obvious joke.

C'mon, Chael. Do your research. Learn my city, and make better jokes than that.

Thanks to Chicago's MMA.

Dear Santa: What fight fans want for the holidays

Dear Santa: What fight fans want for the holidays

It's a giving time of year, so why not ask Santa Claus for what we want as fight fans? That, and a Red Rider BB gun.

An exciting bout from Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem: They are two hulking men, which can mean huge punches and a memorable bout, or it can be painful to watch. As Ben Fowlkes put it, when heavyweight fights go bad, they go really, really bad. So please, Santa Claus. Make this fight an ending to 2011 that we will want to remember.

Fuel TV on every cable and satellite provider: The station is kicking off 2012 with a marathon of UFC content. They'll follow that with "Countdowns," pre-fight and post-fight shows, nightly news, and live fights. Fuel is an MMA fan's dream come true, but it still isn't distributed in the majority of homes. So Santa? Can you talk to some cable executives and make sure that every fight fan can watch Fuel?

Fewer injuries to champs: In MMA, injuries are inevitable, but 2011 was an injury-palooza. Jon Jones' hand, Georges St. Pierre's knee, Anderson Silva's shoulder, and Frankie Edgar's back and rib had effects on four different title bouts. Cain Velasquez's shoulder injury, sustained in 2010, put the heavyweight title on ice for more than a year. We know you can't heal injuries, Santa, but can you share some sort of a preventative salve over fighters around the world? Perhaps a magic powder that you can shake from your sled as it passes over Brazil, Canada and the U.S?

Compelling drama on "The Ultimate Fighter": The show that kickstarted the UFC's growth has grown stale. With the move to FX, live fights and a new format, there is hope for rejuvenation. Please, Santa. Make this a must-watch show again.

A coherent vision behind Strikeforce: Last week, Strikeforce and Showtime announced that they will continue their relationship. Until that deal was signed, Strikeforce's future seemed in doubt, as SF champions Nick Diaz, Dan Henderson and Alistair Overeem were all brought over to the UFC. Now that we know Strikeforce has a future, knowing its purpose would be nice. Is it a feeder system to the UFC? Will fights between UFC and Strikeforce stars happen? Let us know, Dana White Santa.

What are we missing? Add to this wish list in the comments or on Facebook.

Online Poker

Online Poker – Bluffing Your Way to Victory

Online poker is a fun game to play when you have a spare 10 minutes, are waiting for a bus or you do it as a full-time job. What all poker players want to be able to achieve is to be able to bluff. If you can bluff, you can turn that off-suit 2-7 into a pot winner. It takes a little bit of luck, some ground work and a lot of bravery.

Understand that it's so easy to lose your stack if you bluff straight from the off. It's best to play for a long time, an hour or so, with the same players. Chat to them, show them you're serious and that's when you can try and bluff. It might not always work, and you can lose your credibility if found out, but that's the beauty of online poker.

The best time to bluff is when your opponents have short stacks. They will be scared to out-bet themselves and are more likely to fold. This when you can clean up and take the win in online poker.

Online Poker – Your Image When Trying to Bluff

Online poker is all about the image that you project about yourself. It can be tricky to make sure that everyone on the table knows you projected image, but if you manage it, then you can clean up quite quickly. It's best to play tight or passively at the beginning, move onto a little looser and then quite aggressive. This way you are changing your style and people will struggle to work out whether you're bluffing or not.

By doing this, you're more likely to collect easy pots and chip away at their stack. If you can build up a healthy stack then you can start to pay very aggressively and bully people into folding so you collect the pot. It's a ruthless game online poker.

If you can make sure there are only 1-2 other players in the hand then you have more of a chance of gaining respect and making others realize you're not a newbie at online poker.

Online Poker – Turning the Bad Hands into Winners

Online poker is all about the psychology of the game. If you have a pair of 2s and there is a potential flush on the table, you can pretend you have the flush. It's important to do this after you've won with some great hands previously, so players will be more likely to think you're a tight player.

This type of play is why online poker is so popular. If you can successfully manage to make others think you have a different selection of cards, you're onto a winner – unless of course they have that flush, then this is where the risk versus reward factor comes into it.

One final thought: beware of tight players. If they seem like there are always playing tight then you need to spend a little money to see if they are telling the truth or not. It'll cost you but by unravelling these players, you can win even more at online poker.

Credit Card Debt Relief

Credit Card Debt – Don't Let it Ruin Your Life

Credit card debt is a testing aspect of one's life to deal with. It can ruin your finances, remove your buying power and absorb all of your wages in one go. Without properly managing your money you can expect to lose track of the interest rates, possibly default on the debt and that just starts the ball rolling.

It can be difficult to stop credit card debt once you're in it. You might struggle to meet the minimum repayments, which is a place that makes the credit card companies the most money, and this just adds to the debt. You're not paying off the balance, only the interest, and this is something that can go on for decades, not just years.

What is needed from now is to put an end to the debt before it puts an end to your finances. It can be a depressing time being in debt but there is hope for those that have defaulted on their credit card debt.

Credit Consultants Can Help With Credit Card Debt

Credit card debt is something that is too easy to fall into. By putting everything you buy on the 'plastic' you are adding to the pain and suffering you'll suffer down the line. A credit counsellor or credit consultant from a debt settlement agency can help relieve the pressure you're feeling from the card companies or debt collection agencies.

By negotiating a deal with your unsecured credit card debt, the card companies will eventually agree to be able to reclaim some of their money back. The credit counsellor will piece together your debts so you only pay one amount and will strive to make it far less than the total you owe.

As they have extreme negotiating skills and do this for thousands of Americans just like you, the results are outstanding. They have the knowledge and skills to make your financial worries reduced and come to an end. So, there is no more losing sleep over your credit card debt.

Get in Control of Credit Card Debt

Credit card debt can easily make you lose control of your money. Without getting a grip of it now you are going to struggle and most likely default on payments, making things more difficult. Using a credit counselor, you can make the most of a bad situation. They can help you reduce your debt owed by up to 30% and make it so you only pay your unsecured debts in one single payment.

To ensure you can apply for the help with your credit card debt don't delay in getting in touch with a debt settlement agency and let them fight your battles with debt collection agencies and credit card companies for you.

It might take a little while to put into place but finally, after years of worry and anxiety you can be back on track with your finances and put an end to your credit card debt.

Online Poker – Bad Beats

Online poker is an art form. You can learn for years and years and still get beaten by a newbie poker player. It is all about what you do with the information that is in front of you as to how successful you're going to be. Here are some tips to understand and take in if you fall victim to a bad beat.

A bad beat is a necessary evil in poker. If you don't experience it, then you won't be wary of it. In most cases, you're going to lose around 25% of the time. That means you need to learn how to lose and how to bounce back. If you fold for 7 more times after a bad beat, then you're playing safe, which is good. If you go all-in after a bad beat, it's tilt mode in your online poker world.

Work on your process not the results when you come up against a bad beat. Work out why you fell into the trap and perfect your process. The results will follow once you have a strategy and learn how to read people better in online poker.

Online Poker – You Need the Fish to Win

Online poker brings many new players every day and you need those bad beats so that the newbie players keep coming back. If you don't lose no one will want to play against you and you won't make any money. You might have more of an idea about statistics, ranges, probabilities and odds, but unless they win sometimes, they are going to walk away and probably start betting on horses.

If fish win, then you are dangling the carrot in front of them. In fact, sometimes it's a good idea to let them win if you see they are getting frustrated. That way you can vary the results and be in control more. A loss leader in online poker should only be done a few times, so you can play for 20 more hands against the same person.

It sounds cruel but if you're a full-time poker player then you must protect your investment and learn to really play the players at online poker.

Online Poker – When to Stop?

Online poker is addictive. It's a fact. If you know when to stop then you will go a long way. No one poker player can win for 12 hours straight. You need to treat it as a job but a job that is fun. As soon as you stop having fun, you'll start losing.

If you start to lose, then cut your losses and try again tomorrow. This is the best way to play online poker and one way of protecting your bankroll.

If you're short-stacking, don't forget that you can make a great come-back or you can go to another table. There's no pride at stake if you move to an easier table. Think of your stack and the money will start to roll in when you're playing online poker.

Debt Settlement Companies

http://bit.ly/s83GzP

Debt Settlement – How Does it Work?

Debt settlement is the process of combining all of you debts and outstanding balances into one easy monthly payment. Whether you are looking at how to pay off your credit card debts or how to recoup and manage your bills that you're struggling to pay, then a credit counselor should be the first person you get in touch with.

The debt counselor will look at your earnings and household expenses to see what is a reasonable amount of repayment. After this, you can expect them to come up with a deal. If they can convince your creditors that they should take a lower monthly repayment plan then you are well on your way to becoming debt free as long as you keep up the repayments for the debt settlement plan.

The creditor will be more likely to deal with the credit counselor as they are a third party and representing you, instead of you trying to negotiate a plan yourself. As most loan companies simply want their monthly payment, then a payment plan is more likely to be stuck to if a third party has created it for you debt settlement.

What Happens With Debt Settlement Plans?

Debt settlement plans, or loan forgiveness plans, help people in debt climb out of the turmoil of worrying about how they are going to be able to afford their next payment. They might have defaulted and are falling into the trap of missing more payments, ultimately having more and more companies on their back causing them more worry and suffering.

While not everyone is eligible for debt settlement plans, it's important to get in contact with a debt agency and see what the counselor can come up with. It might be simpler to combine all your debts together and pay a lower amount and just one rate of interest. Doing this will not only help the burden of the total amount repayable but it means that only one payment is needed per month so it's easier to manage.

The way the counsellor deals with your creditors is paramount in getting a good response. Thankfully, they will be experienced and know how to work out a good deal for both parties. This is something many people try themselves and usually come off worse compared to those using a company in the debt settlement market.

Change Your Future With Debt Settlement

Debt settlement is usually thought of when you lose your job, have huge repayments and are struggling to repay them or have unaccounted for debt such as medical bills. This can be a horrendous time and often leads to personal depression and anxiety. Instead of making it worse for yourself by hiding away from it all, get in touch with a good credit counselor and see what plans they can sort out for you.

You're not the first client they will have had and certainly won't be the last, but in your case, you need debt settlement to help you continue with your life and stop the worrying.

Getting accepted onto a plan is the first hurdle. Not everyone is eligible and the only way to find out is to contact your nearest and best agency for debt settlement.

Win Without Wagering With FaceUpGaming.com
New and revolutionary way of playing poker online in the USA and winning money

30 December 2011 – Playing poker online in the US took a turn for the worse in April 2011, with the forced ruling from UIEGA, the governing body of online gambling, and it saw all Americans unable to play at the poker tables online. The latest site that by-passes the rule, FaceUpGaming.com, has launched a new way of playing poker, still with the ability to earn money, yet without the wagering.

The new site from the poker duo who created the site is strategically developed to bring the additively popular game to homes around the US, and the world, as there is no betting for real money. The way players earn money is to join the monthly subscription and be entered in monthly draws which lets them earn a portion of $125,000 in cash and prizes for the Silver subscription, and up to $135,000 for the Platinum one, and an additional $50,000 in league tournaments can be won also.

Joyce Fisher, a spokeswoman for the site, said: “We are really pleased with the response at such an early stage in FaceUpGaming's career. As we provide the very best poker site that allows US players, and still give them the chance to win money, it's no wonder our membership site has been welcomed with open arms.

She continued, “Given the chance to win up to $135,000 in prizes and cash, as well as trips to Aruba, the World Series and tons of more fantastic gifts and prizes, we've created such a unique way of playing poker online.”

The site will also host other games such as Backgammon and Chess, but for now, online poker is top of the list. Players can see, speak and chat to other players in the US and around the globe when they join each poker table, thanks to the unique interactive poker table configuration. By earning points by beating other players, which can then be used for larger tournaments or in leagues, players can then go for the top prizes and seats at major poker tournaments which are usually shown on TV!

As well as cash prizes and seats at major poker tournaments, FaceUpGaming offers the chance to go to Aruba, whereby the winner will meet Tom McEvoy, receive a gift and a seminar by him, join in the welcome party and beach part as well as being given travel allowance and their hotel paid for. Joyce added, “The Aruba Package is obviously one of the most luxurious of prizes, and in fact, many players try and win this rather than money!”

New players can join up FaceUpGaming.com and play against real people in tournaments, leagues, sit n go games as well as 'cash' games, and who are all over the world and the US by using this link http://faceupgaming.com. For players that are outside of the US, when registering they need to supply their IBEN number to be able to register.
