MMAjunkie.com today learned from Oliveira's manager, Wade Hampel, that Oliveira has informed UFC brass he would like for his next fight to take place in the company's featherweight division.

"Charles hopes to return to action before the end of the year, if possible," Hampel said. "We're extremely excited to see what he can achieve at 145 pounds."

UFC 137 Bonuses: BJ Penn vs. Nick Diaz Earns Fight of Night Honors

LAS VEGAS - It was one of the most bizarre back stories in UFC history, and on Saturday night Nick Diaz and BJ Penn were rewarded for making the fight live up to the hype.

Diaz and Penn were given Fight of the Night honors at UFC 137 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center for their three-round slugfest in the main event. Diaz and Penn each got bonus checks for $75,000 for their performances in the fight, which Diaz dominated in the standup game for a unanimous decision win - and prompting Penn to announce his retirement.

Also picking up bonus checks for their performances were Donald Cerrone for Submission of the Night and Bart Palaszewski for Knockout of the Night. Cerrone's submission was the only one on the 11-fight card.

Penn was the clear fan favorite early in the fight, but as Diaz continued to pepper him with shots to the face, the crowd seemed to turn in favor of Diaz - or at least in favor of hoping to see an exciting finish after seeing seven decisions leading up to the main event.

Though Diaz couldn't finish the two-time UFC champ, he left his face battered and bloodied. After the fight, Penn said the fight would be his last.

"It's probably the last time you're ever going to see me in here," Penn told Joe Rogan. "That's it. I've got another daughter on the way - I don't want to go home looking like this."

Diaz, who was supposed to face Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight title on the card until he was removed from the fight for missing two press conferences, now is back in line to likely face the winner of St-Pierre vs. Carlos Condit. That fight won't take place until St-Pierre recovers from a knee injury suffered in training earlier this month.

"It feels good to be back fighting," Diaz said. "In the second round, I turned it on and tried to take him out. He started going on defense in Round 3. Things would have been different if there were five rounds. I would have taken him out for sure in the fourth. BJ is one of the best there is, and not that many would go out there and take all those punches."

Cerrone continued his blitz up the UFC's lightweight ladder, submitting Dennis Siver with a first-round rear naked choke. That win gave Cerrone six straight and four straight in the UFC - all in 2011 after moving over from the WEC. Siver's four-fight winning streak was snapped with the loss.

Palazewski was the card's biggest underdog winner. Fighting in the UFC for the first time, and back in action for the first time in 10 months, Palaszewski stunned Tyson Griffin with a hook, then battered him with lefts and rights until one big right put Griffin on the canvas.

After the fight, Palaszewski, a former WEC and IFL standout, said he believes he broke both of his hands landing the shots that ended the fight.

Urijah Faber looking to make a statement, finish Brian Bowles at UFC 139

Urijah Faber came up just short against Dominick Cruz in his bid for the UFC Bantamweight Championship in July, and now he's looking to get another chance with his fight against Brian Bowles at UFC 139 next month. In an interview with ESPN, Faber said he knows he's got a tough fight with Bowles, but is out to make a statement in that bout:

"He's super tough. He's one of the world champions that not many people have heard of. For the fans it's not as big of a deal but for me, knowing how tough he is, I know it's going to be a good fight.

He's fast but he's not as fast as I am. He's strong but I don't think he's as strong as I am. He's got great wrestling, he's got a lot of submissions - mostly chokes, like myself - but I think the creativity that I bring to the table and also the experience that I have is going to be the edge. And I gotta find a way to finish him because he's a hard guy to finish and I need to make a statement."

UFC 137 Press Conference Video

Nick Diaz will be in the spotlight at the UFC 137 press conference Thursday afternoon. The UFC 137 press conference will feature UFC President Dana White, B.J. Penn, Nick Diaz, Matt Mitrione, Cheick Kongo, Mirko Cro Cop and Roy Nelson on Thursday. We'll have the live video right here at MMAFighting.com.

Diaz will be the marquee attraction because of his hatred for press events. Diaz was initially pulled from a UFC 137 title fight with Georges St. Pierre because he no-showed for press conferences, and now with St. Pierre injured and off the card, Diaz is back in the main event.

The press conference begins at 4 PM ET on Thursday and the video is below (click the UFC Live bar).

Brazil Will Get First International Edition of The Ultimate Fighter, Likely to Air on FUEL

LAS VEGAS -- The UFC has finally, officially signed a deal to produce its first international edition of The Ultimate Fighter.

And despite UFC president Dana White's past statements that it would probably take place in either Canada or The Philippines, it will instead take place in Brazil.

"It's a done deal," White said on Thursday afternoon.

White said the UFC had signed a deal to produce and air the series in Brazil, though he did not yet know exactly where it would take place. But the series is also likely to air in the U.S. Under the promotion's new FOX deal, White said there are ongoing discussions, and that the show is likely to air on FUEL.

"Let me tell you what, if you're a UFC fan, you want FUEL," he said. "FUEL's going to be loaded with all kinds of UFC programming including live fights, and live fights from other countries."

The UFC just recently visited Brazil for the first time during the Zuffa era, in a massively successful show. Given MMA's roots in the country, the market has grown quickly and become a hot target for the UFC, which is seriously exploring a return within the next few months. The TUF deal shows how serious they are about continuing to grow the sport in Brazil.

But if you're in The Philippines or Canada, have no fear. TUF is likely coming to those markets and others, in due time.

"We're doing all those, too," he said. "This one just happened really fast."

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 14 REPORT 10/26: Hyden's (Virtual Time) Rundown of all the fights, all the drama on Spike TV

TUF_logo_Main_box_5.jpeg
By: Frank Hyden, MMATorch contributor

We start with a recap of Akira Corassani 's controversial decision win over Dustin Neace. I still think Akira tapped when Dustin had him in that ankle lock. The replay even shows that Akira tapped. Michael Bisping and Jason "Mayhem" Miller have words. Akira celerbrates. Mayhem tells Dustin that you have to let the ref stop the fight instead of releasing when the guy taps. Team Mayhem is training. Steven Siler wants to fight Diego Brandao because he thinks he's the only guy on his team who can beat Diego. I don't think he's that good.

Team Bisping is training now. Diego is working on his stand-up and wrestling. Bisping is concerned about Diego's cardio. At the weigh-in, both guys make weight no problem. Dana White thinks highly of Diego. Back at the house, Steven is in the hot tub. Steven talks about his girlfriend and how she pushes him forward. Diego gets his head shaved, he talks about how his life was dangerous and such after his dad passed away. Diego gets emotional talking about it. Bisping tells Diego to be taking it easy as he keeps training hard in the cage. Steven is confident in his cardio and conditioning. Diego says nothing is going to be able to stop him.

FIGHT- Steven Siler vs. Diego Brandao
Steven is 4 inches taller and has a 0.5 inch reach advantage. Josh Rosenthal is the referee.

ROUND 1- Diego with a nice leg kick. They're trading early. Diego clips Steven with a shot that drops him. He follows up and forces the ref to step in.

WINNER- Diego Brandao by Knockout

Bisping and Mayhem exchance more words after the fight. Diego says his dad is proud of him. Mayhem is pissed that Bisping is being such a douche. Later, we see Team Bisping training and discussing the final 2 match-ups. Roland Delrome has his foot swollen like crazy. Mayhem says it might be a skin infection.

Bisping gets to pick the next fight and goes on and on about something about being a sportsman. He's really being a jerk here. The fight is John Albert vs. John Dodson. Other members of Team Bisping are upset about T.J. not wanting to fight Dodson. The final match-up is T.J. vs. Roland Delrome.

Bisping says that John Albert has the best hands in the house. Albert says he's going to crush Dodson. Mayhem says Dodson is working his way back into people's good graces. Mayhem also says that Dodson is talented, but lazy. Sounds like a lot of guys with tremendous talent. It doesn't sound like he has the will to be the best, like he wants to coast on his talent. He'll learn eventually.

FIGHT- John Dodson vs. John Albert
Albert is 5 inches taller and has a 1.5 inch reach advantage. Steve Mazzagatti is the referee.

ROUND 1- Dodson fires off a few combos, then a nice headkick. They exchange. Albert has the center of the cage. Dodson with a leg kick. Dodson has good speed, and is using it fairly well. Dodson is firing off. Albert goes for a takedown, but can't get it. Dodson pounds on him, but Albert then gets a takedown. Dodson reverses it and gets on top, though. They separate. The action slows down. Dodson with a knee to the body. Albert fires off a combo. Dodson with a bodykick. Albert with a front kick. Dodson with a body kick and punch. Albert takes Dodson down again, but Dodson quickly reverses it.

ROUND 2- Dodson tries a few things, then slips. Bisping is telling Albert to press the action. Things are slowing down. Dodson rushes forward with a few shots. Dodson with a headkick. Dodson with a nice left hand. Neither guy is really pulling away with this, though Dodson is probably winning. Albert jumps on Dodson's back. They go to the ground, with Dodson on top. Albert stands up quickly. Albert grabs Dodson and they spin to the ground. Dodson is on top, but Albert quickly stands up. Both guys are throwing a few punches here and there, but nothing too damaging. Looks like Dodson is going to win a decision. Dodson gets Albert down as the round ends.

WINNER- John Dodson by Decision

Not a terribly impressive fight. Dodson admits he was coasting. That's not going to work when you run into a good fighter. Albert is very upset and crying about losing.

AMADI: With UFC's pay-per-view business stagnating, free television must be better utilized

By: Jason Amadi, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Staff10Amadi_130_9.jpg
It is a well known fact that the UFC has followed the WWE blueprint to great success for much of the last decade. The UFC breaks into new markets like the WWE, they've laid waste to their competitors like the WWE, but they've still yet to master perhaps the most crucial aspect of the pro wrestling model: effectively using free television in order to sell pay-per-views.

There is no getting around the fact that pay-per-view business has been down for the UFC in 2011. Injuries have certainly done their damage to a number of UFC cards this year, and the UFC has had a number of new faces headline pay-per-views for the first time, but how long can the UFC rely exclusively on Brock Lesnar and Georges St. Pierre alone to stimulate the pay-per-view market?

The novelty of simply watching a UFC fight isn't what it used to be. That isn't to say that it's depreciated in any way, but rather the days where the UFC could get away with marketing brand over the fighters may be over. There is such a volume of mixed martial arts content out there that the UFC simply putting on a free television card or a pay-per-view event without a compelling narrative isn't going to do the kind of numbers that it would have a few years ago.

Fighters who sell well in the UFC are the ones who can separate themselves from the pack inside the cage and out.

Brock Lesnar isn't just a UFC fighter; he's a former international pro wrestling superstar. Georges St-Pierre isn't just a UFC fighter; he's one of the most popular athletes out of Canada, and is of one of the greatest UFC Champions ever. Anderson Silva isn't just a UFC fighter; he's the most accomplished UFC fighter of all time.

The vast majority of fighters on the UFC roster don't stand out this way. Most of them are nameless and faceless to the general public, and it's because the UFC has opted to push the brand over the fighters when it truly matters. Unfortunately, this is a trend that looks to continue moving forward.

Advertisements for the UFC's November 12 debut on Fox for the most part appear to be just that, advertisements the UFC's debut on Fox. Clips of Junior dos Santos blasting Gilbert Yvel and Cain Velasquez going buck wild on Cheick Kongo might be present, but all the general public sees are two UFC fighters competing on Fox. While this will likely serve to push the UFC brand to new heights, it doesn't do justice to what may be the most important heavyweight title fight that we've seen to this point.

For free television cards to be considered successful, the fighters in the main event need to get over with the casual fan. The general public needs to invest in the narrative of the fighters and truly embrace them. After November 12, casual fans should want to see the next Cain Velasquez fight, as opposed to just the next UFC fight. They should feel invested in where Junior dos Santos goes from there, as opposed to feeling as though they need to pledge undying loyalty to the UFC brand just to keep up.

The UFC doing more free events and fewer pay-per-views next year is a step in the right direction. But unless the UFC makes stars out of its lesser known champions and their upcoming challengers on free television, it's likely that none of them will ever break free of the "UFC fighter" tag and join Brock Lesnar and Georges St-Pierre in the "bonafide superstar" category.

Feel free to follow me on Twitter @JasonAmadi. Although from here on out forget my name, I want to be addressed as nameless, faceless MMATorch writer #7.

Caros Fodor says he's fighting Justin Wilcox at Strikeforce "Melendez vs. Masvidal"

Two former Strikeforce Challengers series headliners will square off this December at Strikforce "Melendez vs. Masvidal," as Caros Fodor revealed on Wednesday's "The MMA Show" with Mauro Ranallo that he'll be taking on Justin Wilcox at the Dec. 17 event.

Fodor has won four straight fights in Strikeforce in the Challengers series, scoring victories over Ousmane Thomas Diagne, Derek Getzel, David Douglas, and most recently James Terry.

Wilcox had won five straight in the organization heading into his last fight with "JZ" Cavalcante, but an eye poke suffered in that bout left it as a "no contest." WIlcox is unbeaten in his last eight, and holds an overall record of 11-3 with that one no contest.

White?s behind-the-scenes video blog that you can?t miss

UFC president Dana White has used his fight week video blogs to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at UFC events, ranging from seeing the many celebrities who attend fights to the random stops White will make in promoting the UFC.

This one is a little different and worth your time because it will give you a better idea of the gamut of emotions that fighters experience after a loss. It's a little long, and full of not-safe-for-work language, but turn those speakers down and press play.

Melvin Guillard switches from angry (slamming a chair) to brokenhearted (sobbing in a heap on the floor) rather quickly. He still had plenty of energy left over after his loss to Joe Lauzon in less than a minute, and it had to be exerted somewhere. On the other side of the spectrum, Kenny Florian is despondent after his five-round loss to Jose Aldo, and Gray Maynard is sadly appreciative to his cornermen after brushing off Frankie Edgar.

Seeing all this anger, pain and sadness makes you wonder why a fighter would put himself through such a grind just to lose, but the video blog answers that question in short glimpses of the winners. Edgar's glowing smile, Aldo's celebratory conversation with Anderson Silva, and White handing out bonus checks to the Fight of the Night and Submission of the Night winners show why they risk so much for a win.

Condit let down, but still focused on St. Pierre and the belt

Condit let down, but still focused on St. Pierre and the beltCarlos Condit has been through a roller coaster while preparing UFC 137. He started out by preparing for a bout with B.J. Penn. After Nick Diaz's no-show for multiple press obligations, Condit was given the title shot. Today, he found out Georges St. Pierre was injured, and that Condit's title shot would have to wait until December or January.

Still, Condit told Cagewriter that he's not angry about the turn of events.

"It's a letdown, but it's the nature of the sport. I'm going to stay positive, keep training, and be even better when the fight comes."

He said taking another fight in the meantime just doesn't make sense.

"Nothing's been offered, and me and my manager discussed it, and taking another fight doesn't make sense on a lot of levels. As far as my career goes, it doesn't make sense, from a money standpoint, it doesn't make sense."

GSP's injury will not keep him out of training for too long, so Condit will wait for GSP and the title shot.

"In this situation, Georges isn't out six or eight months or anything like that. He's sprained his knee. It's going to be a short recovery, and hopefully we'll be able to get this thing done, and get in the cage by the end of the year, or early next year at the latest."

Both Jake Ellenberger and Josh Koscheck hinted that they would be ready to take the fight, but Condit is focused on the belt.

"I have the opportunity to fight for the title, and I have my heart set on Georges. When and if I beat Georges, I'll take on Ellenberger. I'll give him a rematch. I'll fight anyone, but right now, I have my heart set on Georges."

In the meantime, Condit will not change his training routine.

"My job is to get up every day and go to the gym and train, and improve my skills, and improve myself as a fighter. That's what I'm going to do tomorrow. I'll be able to eat a little bit more, and enjoy not so strict of a diet, but that's about the only difference. "

What will that cheat food be?

"Pizza or enchiladas," Condit said with a laugh.

Cesar Gracie: If Nick Diaz Finishes BJ Penn, We'll Ask for Georges St-Pierre First

Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre can't seem to get everything lined up to face each other. The two were going to fight later this month at UFC 137 until Diaz missed two press conferences in two days and was removed from the fight. As it turns out, the bout wouldn't have happened anyway after St-Pierre injured his knee and withdrew from the event altogether.

On Saturday, Diaz has a chance to make his case as the true No. 1 welterweight contender when he faces BJ Penn. And according to his trainer and manager Cesar Gracie, if Diaz decisively wins the bout that night, they'll ask to bypass Carlos Condit and get bumped back into his original position as GSP's next challenger.

"This is the UFC so there's always that chance," Gracie said on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "There's no question about it that I will ask for that if Nick has a tremendous performance and he can finish BJ, I would ask for that. But the biggest thing is if the fans want it. If the fans all ask for that, Dana [White] is a smart guy. He knows the sport is about the fans. So who knows?"

Of course, much is dependent on Diaz winning.

It was a fight that neither side wanted, stemming from Penn's longstanding relationship with the camp. In fact, years ago, he fought for the first time ever while under the Team Cesar Gracie banner.

Because of that, it took some convincing to pull the two particulars together as both were initially resistant to the bout. Gracie eventually spoke to BJ Penn's brother JD and the two sides came to the realization that the fight was inevitable.

"We said, 'Hey, you know what? These guys are going to have to fight in the future, at some point in their lives. So let's just get it over with,'" Gracie said.

Gracie described the entire UFC 137 ordeal as an "emotional rollercoaster" and added that he's confident that there will be no problems during fight week. As he noted, Gracie been involved in several main events while in Strikeforce, and was also in the main card of a CBS-televised EliteXC show, so he does have experience going through periods of heavy media attention.

Gracie, who has been in Diaz's corner since the beginning of his fight career, said there was never any point where things got too strained between them, saying that like any family-type relationship, they might get mad at each other but their deep ties will always pull them back together.

"Nick doesn't have to fight at all, in my eyes, ever again, and it's not going to put our relationship to an end, because he's one of the black belts of this school," he said. "He's helped us out tremendously. He's put a lot attention on our academy. He's fought the good fight, and he's done everything I could imagine a guy can do. I don't have any expectations of what he owes me or owes my school or anything like that. If he quit fighting tomorrow, his accomplishments are still impressive. He's got nothing to prove to me. I was obviously disappointed and pissed off about certain things as I'm sure he gets disappointed and pissed off at me and other people at my school, but you just get over that. It's part of that family thing."

The silver lining to the issue that cost Diaz his title shot was increased attention, and now Diaz may have more eyeballs on him, so if he wins convincingly, there may be an uproar to face St-Pierre sooner rather than later.

Gracie said he believes the key to beating Penn is to win exchanges on the feet and scrambles on the ground. He acknowledged that Penn has the advantage in wrestling, but thinks that Diaz's skill set has some wrinkles that could give Penn problems. One advantage is likely conditioning, and Gracie noted that is why he asked for a five-round fight, a request that was turned down.

Either way, at least he'll be fighting on Saturday, which wouldn't have happened if his original match had never been switched. Now he gets the chance to increase his credibility in the eyes of some skeptics, make a statement, and maybe even demand the match that was originally his to begin with.

"In some strange way, it worked out," Gracie said.

Marcus Davis interview: Veteran is still fighting, but not because he has to

Marcus Davis is on the outside looking in, but it doesn't bother the 38-year-old that his days in the UFC may be over. Those 14 fights over the course of six years, have set him up for some big things down the road.

Davis is fighting this weekend in Miami on the W-1 card at the Bank United Center against Season 13 "Ultimate Fighter" alum Chuck O'Neill (FoxSportsNet).

Davis keeps stepping into the cage because he loves, and thankfully, not because he has to as so many older guys in the past havbe.

"It really is about the fights. I'm a fighter, I've always been a fighter and I'm just fighting man," Davis told the "MMA Insiders Show" on ESPNRadio1100. "I just love showing up. I love fighting. I love entertaining. That's what I do. That's my job and that's why I got this real positive outlook and I'm back winning fights."

Davis is a busy man. He's already promoted three shows in Maine and headlined the last one on Sept. 24. Davis has opened two MMA gyms in his home state. More significantly, he also helped get the sport legalized in Maine. Davis was so impressive during his pitch in front of legislators a few of them said he should look into a future in politics.

Check out the part of the conversation where Davis also talks about how dangerous it was to try and cut down to lightweight (8:40 mark). He fought twice at 155 pounds and put himself in real jeopardy when he did so for a fight against Curtis DeMarce in Canada.

Now entrenched at 145, Tyson Griffin is gunning for Jose Aldo?s belt

Between injuries and tough decisions not going his way Tyson Griffin has become sort of a forgotten man in the UFC. The featherweight is trying to change that in his new weight class. One that he believes is lot more competitive than many who cover and follow the sport. Jose Aldo is not unbeatable according to Griffin.

"To be honest, he doesn't use his jab much. There's ways to pick him apart on that aspect," Griffin told ESPNRadio1100/98.9 FM.

Griffin said Florian simply wasn't athletic enough to keep up with the UFC's featherweight champ. Florian was able to slow down the fight at times and score takedowns.

"Allowing himself to get caught against the fence, can allow him to get taken down even more against someone who knows how to get someone down on the ground there," said Griffin.

Up next for Griffin is Bart Palaszewski at UFC 137 on Oct. 29. Check out Griffin's website. To benefit Boys Town of Nevada, he's running a UFC 137 ticket giveaway.
