I'm surprised that Chael would do this, mainly because that offer was the main reason for this rematch. He certainly hasn't earned a rematch, all he's done since losing to Anderson Silva the first time was beat Brian Stann. Going by who's earned the next fight with Silva, you'd probably go with Michael Bisping. Although it's not like there's anyone in the middleweight division that you would proclaim to truly deserve a title shot, there's no one out there that is head and shoulders above the rest of the pack.
If it were up to me, I'd give Sonnen his rematch against Silva. However, I would also make it very clear that I'm holding him to his word. If Silva were to beat Sonnen, he would no longer be in the UFC. See, that's one of the problems with guys like Sonnen, they shoot their mouth off and expect to be able to soft shoe their way out of it. Dana White should tell Sonnen that he gets his rematch, but only with the stakes he laid out.
I'm not biased against Chael Sonnen. The thing is, I call him on his stuff. What if Jon Fitch was like Sonnen, and ran his mouth all the time? What about Gray Maynard? Junior dos Santos? They don't do that, but if they did, I'd damn sure call them on it, too.
It's amazing to me that there are people out there who expect people to just give Sonnen a pass on the stupid things he says. I would call anybody out if they said or did the things Sonnen does. Kenny Florian is one of my favorite fighters, but if he said the things Sonnen said I'd call him on it. I'm not going to give anyone a pass, that doesn't mean I'm biased. Is Chael Sonnen good entertainment? To a point, yes. However, he's routinely crossed the line that separates good fun from crazy lunatic.

Georges St-Pierre has had to pull out his UFC 137 main event with Carlos Condit, due to a knee injury. That sucks, to be quite honest. I was very much so looking forward to this fight. The B.J. Penn vs. Nick Diaz fight now becomes the main event. That should be a good fight, but I was really interested in seeing GSP fight Condit. It's a damn shame that GSP got this injury now, it sounds like it's not too severe and GSP will recover from it in 4-6 weeks. Early 2012 is the target date now. I guess that gives us something to look forward to early next year.

Last week I wrote about Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen 2, and about how I think the fight will go. I received more feedback, positive and negative, about this topic than any other I've ever written about. I had a lot of people telling me they agreed with what I wrote, and I also had a lot of people saying they disagreed with what I wrote. I have zero problem with someone disagreeing with me. However, I did notice a somewhat disturbing trend with the e-mails from people who thought I was wrong about Sonnen. Of the e-mails I received from Sonnen fans, about 75% of them included homophobic or racial slurs towards me, threats of violence if I ever met them, and stuff of that nature. One reader even offered to break my hands for me so I wouldn't have to write my blog anymore.
I don't think that this accurately represents Chael Sonnen fans. I don't think that 75% of all Sonnen fans act like this; I'm sure that number is far less than that, but it's still troubling that there appears to be such a vocal group of Sonnen fans who can't stand to have someone give a negative opinion on their guy. It's not as though Sonnen himself is a choir boy, his outrageous statements speak for themselves.
I did receive several e-mails from Sonnen fans who were very polite and courteous in their disagreement with my comments. Full disclosure- there were a couple of Sonnen fans who left comments in the Comments section below my blog who were also courteous in their disagreement as well (I didn't actually read their comments until earlier today so that's why I didn't respond).
One commenter wanted to bet me that if Sonnen beats Silva, I have to write a blog congratulating Sonnen on his victory. No bets necessary there, if Sonnen were to win I would give him his due. Several Sonnen fans have accused me of being biased against Sonnen. That's not true at all, did no one see how I gave Sonnen an A grade on his victory over Brian Stann? I give credit where credit is due. I also call things the way I see them. Just because you disagree with me doesn't mean that I'm biased. When Sonnen does good things, I give him credit. When he does bad things, I call him on it.
I do read all the feedback sent to me, and I always try to be as polite and courteous as I can when I respond, which I always do respond when someone e-mails me. However, I do ask that you try to think before you send your e-mail. Name-calling isn't the best way to get your point across. When you lower yourself to using homophobic or racial slurs towards me, your point becomes moot. No one is going to care what you have to say when you hide that point with such bad behavior. I can take anything that's dished out, but you make yourself look bad by resorting to name-calling and the like. If you want to disagree with me, that's fine, I'm always open to debate, but we still need to act civilized.
